Matthew 20:24-28

Author:

SCRIPTURE:

Matthew 20:24-28
24 When the ten other disciples heard what James and John had asked, they were indignant. 25 But Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. 26 But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. 28 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

OBSERVATION:

· We often have a sense of entitlement
· Humility is important and begins by serving others
· We are to live differently than the world, not flaunting power or authority
· We must lead by serving others
· Learning to think of others first will improve the way we serve and lead
· If we want to follow the example of Christ we must learn to serve others

APPLICATION:

How often do we let our sense of entitlement stir up anger in us when the situation is not deserving of it. We allow our pride to blind us, giving us a false sense of importance and power. When in the reality of the situation we need to humble ourselves and realize that God has everything in control and knows what we are going through

Humbly serving others is one of the greatest gifts we can give to both others and ourselves. When we serve others we are reminded that this life is not about us, it’s about God and showing His love to others. Recognizing this fact allows us to serve the un-servable, help those who feel entitled to it, and humbly lead others when we ourselves are being lead.
Philippians 2:3-4 says, “Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.”

PRAYER:

Lord, thank you that you humbled yourself and came to serve me in the most incredible of ways. Help me to serve others when it is difficult, give me patience and a new-found love for others. Give me insight into how to best serve those around me, that I might be a good reflection of you. I love you so much. Amen
