Children in Worship — Overview

We believe in making worship of our Lord a time for families to participate together.

Adults and children are welcome to attend our Sunday morning worship services at 9:00. We believe that even for very young children, participation in church with their parents is the best way for them to develop an understanding of and love for corporate worship. This is why we have structured our programs to allow families to participate together in the first portion of our Sunday morning services.

Families are free to remain together throughout the entire service if they so choose. However, because it is difficult for children to grasp teaching presented at an adult level, we provide options to promote family learning. They learn what it means to worship God and have fun praising God.

Sonshine Company is a program of age-based classes for children from two-years-old through fifth grade. Classes begin after the children's worship. Children remain with their parents in the sanctuary for the first part of the service, then they are dismissed at the greeting time.

Hints for Parents

As a parent, you have the privilege of acting as your child's primary role model for learning about life. Thus, the best instructor for teaching your child about worshipping God is you. Here are some suggestions to help your child look forward to, rather than dread, church time.

  • Establish expectations before service starts.

  • Expect participation where appropriate, during the singing, the greeting time, and so on.

  • Don't demand adult behavior, but do expect your child to act appropriately for his age.

  • Limit trips to the bathroom.

  • Provide quiet diversions (books, drawing paper) when your child has listened to the extent of his ability, but don't get these out too soon.

  • After the service, ask them what they learned, and tell them what you learned.

  • And above all else, make sure you are modeling the type of behavior you expect from your child.
