3 Revelation

Kristy Espinoza

Revelation 3:1-22

One letter to each of these churches, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.

Letters telling people how to live, so they can have eternal life.

The letters are pointing out what they are doing right, wrong, and what to keep doing.

Even though each of the letters is written to different places, they are very similar. They all start with “ I know the things you've done” Showing how knowing our God is.

To the church of Sardis, He is telling them, that He knows that they have been evil, but that there is still hope, to go back and repent.

To the church in Philadelphia, He is telling them that He knows that they are good and tried to obey, because of this He will protect them.

To the church in Laodicea, these people don’t think they need God, They are rich, and don’t need anything. He is telling them, that they do need God, they need to buy “ His gold” and “His clothes”  He is telling them to listen, he is standing at the door and knocking for them.

Dear Lord,

Thank you for being all knowing, thank you for caring for us. Thank you for trying to keep our eyes looking to you.  Let us have ears to hear you Lord, and eyes to see.  Lord, I pray for those who you are standing at their door and knocking, Lord, I pray that they will let you into their hearts.   Lord, I pray for those who have followed you and have persevered, lord I pray that they will continue to obey you and follow you! And Lord, I pray for those who know you, but choose to disobey, Lord, I pray that they will see their evil ways and turn from that and look to you.  Lord, I pray that they will see your goodness and choose to follow and obey you.

Thanks Kristy,
Noted author Max Lucado coined a term "Close to the cross, but far from the Christ". The message to the church at Sardis reminded me how amazing it is that we can be busy with church work and in it, have no ministry. We can have vigor and zest and none of God's Spirit making the real difference. When the church does this, there is really no difference from that of the world's busyness and therefore nothing that sets it apart or makes it transformative - only God's Spirit can do that.

Lord, help me to remember how desperate I am for you, that even in the least significant thing, you are able to steer it for Your glory, help nothing to escape my notice, and nothing to escape your purpose in my daily life.
