Scripture:

2 Corinthians 8

Observations:

Macedonians are being tested by many troubles, but in these troubles they are full of joy.

They are full of joy, because of their faith in the lord.

Even though the Macedonians are very poor, they still give generous offerings.

“give in proportion to what you have. Whatever you give is acceptable, if you give it eagerly.” The Macedonians are being encouraged to give eagerly.

Application:

This is a great passage to remind us, that even when we can not give (tithe) as much as we would like, it is good to give what we can with an eager heart. It is not the amount that is given, but the heart behind the giving. It is also a good reminder that “ though he (Jesus) was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty he could make you rich.’ 2 Corinthians 8:9 We need to remember to not count our blessings by what we have on earth, but count our blessings, that we are tremendously rich in heaven, because we get to spend eternity with the one true GOD!

Prayer:

Dear lord,

Thank you that you came to earth poor, so that you can make us rich. Help us to remember that material rich on earth is nothing, that we should always look to you for our treasure! You have been so gracious to us, please help us remember that so we can tithe and give with the same kind of heart you have for us. You have given us so much, help us to give to other by sharing what you have done for us.

AMEN
