Scripture

2 Corinthians 4:13-18

Observation

- This is the Apostle Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians
- He begins by quoting Psalm 116:10 to let the people know that we have the same faith as the Psalmist
- He then reassures the Corinthians by explaining why he does what he does. He knows that Jesus was raised from the dead and He will also raise us to be with Him
- As God’s grace reaches more and more people, there will be more thanksgiving and God will receive more glory
- Now Paul tries to give a word of encouragement by telling them not to lose heart
- He reminds us that outwardly we are wasting away but inwardly we are renewed
- He also reminds us that our earthly troubles are momentary and will not last forever. It’s worth it because of what’s waiting for us in eternity
- Because of this, focus on the eternal and not what is seen now

Application

Paul had been through a lot of suffering and trials. He knew it was worth it to share the gospel because one day he would be in heaven forever with Jesus. I realize I have never been through what Paul went through. However, this reminds me that when I face adversity for sharing my faith and doing what I do, I need to keep my focus on the eternal so I can keep moving forward to do what He is called me to do.

Prayer

Lord I need you. It gets easy to get distracted and selfish and think “what about me”. I surrender that to you. I want to live a life that honors you no matter what comes my way. Help me. I love you Jesus. Amen.
