Scripture

1 Corinthians 9:19-23

Observations

· Paul is not a slave but he chooses to serve like one that he might influence others for Christ
· If someone is a Jew and observes the law, when he is with them he acts like a Jew and observes the law.
· If someone is a Gentile and they do not observe the law, Paul does not observe the law around them (he is talking about ceremonial law, not moral law)
· Paul try’s to meet folks where they are at so that there is nothing between his witness for Christ and that person.
· His desire is to see as many as possible decide to follow Jesus, as much as it depends on him.
· He chooses to live like this because the center of his life is sharing the good news of Jesus, and he hopes to rap the eternal blessings of having lived such a noble life for Christ.

Application

· I must learn how to meet people where they are at whether they have faith, are religious, or not.
· My greatest desire needs to more and more change from getting people to like me, to getting them to know and trust in Christ.
· I serve others so they can know Christ.
· The center of my life needs to be to both live and share the gospel.

Prayer

Father,

Thank you for choosing to serve me by the life of service and sacrifice that Jesus lived. Help me follow his model and not seek my own good but the good of others. Show me how I might serve those I come in to contact with today, meeting them where they are at. May they see Jesus in me. Open up my heart to your Holy Spirit that I might not miss any opportunity to both serve others as well as share the good news about Jesus. Continue to form Christ in me that I might glorify you.

In Jesus name I pray, AMEN
