1 Corinthians 3:11-17

1 Corinthians 3:11-17

  • Everything in church is built upon Jesus.
  • No one can change the message of who Jesus is and what He accomplished
  • In the church we build on the unchangeable Good News of Jesus by serving, teaching, and encouraging one another
  • Some of the ways we serve Christ is in alignment with His guidance
  • Other ways we choose to serve Christ are really about us and not Him
  • In the end, our “work” will be judged
  • If our work was for the glory of Christ we will be rewarded
  • If our work was mainly for our benefit there will be no reward
  • Though there may be no reward for our “work” our eternal acceptance is still by grace and those who have received this grace by faith in Jesus will still enter glory.

Jesus, God in the flesh, crucified for my sin and raised on the third day is a fundamental truth that cannot be tweaked and should be the cornerstone of everything I do for God. I must seek to serve Him in such a way that reflects that my work for Him will be judged. It matters what I do and how I live my life. I will give account for what I did with the gift of Jesus both in my own life as well as how I treated others. However, this does not nullify Christ’s work on the cross. No matter my actions, I am saved by my faith in Christ’s work alone. Praise God for that truth!

Father, thank you for Your love that takes me just as I am. Thank you for basing my acceptance by You, not on my work, but on the work of Jesus the Christ. Please forgive me for not living a life of gratitude for this gift. I desire to more and more make You the Lord of my life. Guide me to the good works that You would have me do that I might stand before You on judgement day and hear those words I long to hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
