1 Corinthians 2:6-16

Scripture

1 Corinthians 2:6-16

Observation

  • Paul does speak words of wisdom among the spiritually mature
  • The wisdom is different than the world’s wisdom
  • The leaders of Jesus’ time did not understand God’s wisdom
  • The Scriptures foretold this in Isaiah 64:4
  • But God did reveal the mysterious wisdom to the early Christians by the power of the Holy Spirit
  • For the Spirit knows both the heart and mind of man as well as the heart and mind of God
  • We have the Holy Spirit not the spirit of this world
  • Because of this we can understand God’s wisdom
  • But those without the Holy Spirit cannot understand the things of God
  • Because ewe have the Holy Spirit we are to have the “mind of Christ”

Application

I think my first response should be gratitude. It is amazing that God chose me to reveal the great mystery of the universe that is God’s love as illustrated in the death and resurrection of Jesus, followed by His unbreakable seal on my life which is the Holy Spirit that resides in me. What an awesome and immeasurable gift. Second, I am reminded that I am to think different. I am not to look at this world through the eyes of happiness, success, or prosperity. Instead, I look at it through the eyes of Jesus. This earth is temporal and the central issue is what I do with God’s love. Do I embrace it and share it, or reject it or keep it to myself?

Prayer

Father, thank you for the incredible gift you gave me through the sacrifice of Jesus. Thank you that you have adopted me into Your family and given me the Holy Spirit as a seal of your acceptance and love. Thank you for choosing the weak to illustrate Your power. Please guide me to put on the “mind of Christ.” Help me see and interact with the world around me the way Jesus did. Show me how I might live Your truth and share it with others. In the name of Jesus I pray, AMEN.
