1 Corinthians 12:27-31

1 Corinthians 12:27-31

  • We are both part of Christ’s one body (the church) and also individual parts with individual responsibilities in the body
  • For the good of the entire church God has appointed people to various ministries like:
    • Evangelists/Church planters known as apostles
    • Those who receive Divine inspiration that results in proclaiming the purposes, correction, and comfort of God (Prophecy).
    • Bible Teachers and Pastors
    • Those who God uses to do miracles
    • Those who God uses to heal others
    • Those who go out of their way to help others
    • Those who take care of the administrative details of the church
    • Those who can speak languages unknown to them
  • Not everyone has the same ability to be an apostle, or prophet, or teacher, or do miracles, or heal, or speak in tongues, or interpret the language of those who speak in tongues.
  • If you are going to desire a better gift then I will let you in on the one that trumps them all . . . love!

The church is supposed to work together as a single unit that is made up of different people doing different ministries for the good of the entire unit. The Holy Spirit has given each individual a gift that they are to use to encourage and help others in the church. We do not all have the same gift and that is by design. We shouldn’t compare gifts, but we should encourage everyone to do their part. The church is most effective when everyone does their part and is appreciated for the part they play. If we truly want an additional gift that will best serve God, us, and the overall body; then we should above all else desire to grow in love (1 Corinthians 13).

Father, thank you for adopting me into your family. I also thank you for my spiritual family. Help me use the gifts you have given me to encourage and aid my brothers and sisters in Christ. Open my eyes that I might see how they each contribute to the health of the body, and show me how I might encourage them to use their gift to the fullest. May the world see that we are the disciples of Jesus because of our love for one another. In Jesus name I pray, AMEN!
