1 Corinthians 1

Author

Kristy Espinoza

Scripture:

1 Corinthians 1

Observations:

Paul is Thankful for the Corinthians, We should be thankful for one another.

For in Him (Jesus) you have been enriched, in every way! in speaking, in knowledge and in your testimony. The lord will keep you strong to the end.

There is division in the church.

Paul wants the church to agree and be united.

Application:

I believe that when Paul says he wants to church the agree and be united, I do not think he is just talking about the staff and elders, and people that come to church on Sundays. I believe Paul is telling us that we need to agree and united outside the walls of the church. To become united and centered on Christ.

Prayer:

Dear lord,

I pray that those who follow you and call you their savior, will be centered on you in all areas of their life, especially when there is division or disagreement between the church. Lord I pray that you will give us opportunities to grow and lean on you more. Please help us not lean on our own wisdom or thoughts, but to come to you when we need help, or wisdom.

Thank you lord for always being there.
AMEN

Thanks for your encouragement to be united and one mind with the entire body of Christ throughout the world. I think it is a powerful idea that Joel King, Chip Ingram, Beth Moore, Francis Chan, John MacArthur, C. S. Lewis, etc. did not die on a cross and rise from the dead. Only Jesus did this, and only he can truly change our lives. Our fixation should be on Jesus alone and not the vessels that point us to him.

I agree this unity is for all believers. Our flesh divides us, makes us want to quarrel. But this passage continuously points to Jesus against our flesh, worldly beliefs, and arrogance. "The word of the cross is foolishness to the world, though it is the power of God to us" (v. 18), and "The Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom..."(v. 22) Those were important reminders. In the past, perhaps in trying to contextualize or meet people where they were at, I thought I should engage them by giving them what they wanted (a debate about evolution or history, some catchy sayings, or a discussion about semantics), but it is only the gospel that will transform, and only by the work of the Spirit.

Also something that struck me in verses 26-29 is that God does the opposite of what we'd expect or what the world applauds so that no man may boast before God. Even in the church, sometimes we admire certain people for something other than the person of Jesus Christ whom we see in them. We like the way they talk, look, or act. And we judge others as weak just because they don't meet our standards. But here Paul is saying, and the Lord is saying, that it is just the opposite of what we think. God will use the weak, ignoble, foolish people to shame those who are seemingly wise. I know that that is something no other faith can claim, and that is very encouraging for someone like me who doesn't have it all together!

amen... Paul's exhortation "that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought" is for the local church as well as the "church of God" in Sunnyvale or in San Jose.

Church is not an event or something you do
Church is not a building or somewhere you go
Church is our family in Christ at all times in all places

or as Joel says... "If you were to count all the churches in the Bay Area, how many do you think there are?"

Today, I went to the beach front with my kids. I found
a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear." She
placed the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is
completely off topic but I had to tell someone! Descargar facebook http://twitter.com/descargar_hq descargar
